Winter Olympics Go for the Gold!

Working with the preschoolers was fun. They were very energetic. In all activities, all the children, but one did not want to participate.  We heard that some kids were singing the alligator song at dinner time, with their family. They talked about the arts and crafts that we prepared for them. They were excited and this in turn made me excited to teach them.

Mr. Alligator can't catch me!

Here we are singing with the St. Mary's Pre-K class.  Some of the kids knew the song and others learned it as we went along.  Either way it was fun for all!

Fun Games

Dodge ball, if done right can be exciting and a challenge  that can be played past high school years.  There are dodge ball tournaments popping up around.  This would encompass NASPE 6, and if played fairly would also have standard 5.  State standards that dodge ball competitions would include are 3a and 3b.  I do believe it should be a game  played by choice, not something that you should have to do in Physical Education.  After all it would be the person's choice to play dodge ball in the community.  I would like to know peoples thoughts and feelings on golf being a sport.  I love to play golf (even though i'm not very good).  I just feel that playing dodge ball was more exercise than golf and golf is something taught in Physical Education programs.  I believe if you make it "fun" for kids then they will get more out of it.  You could have the best game out there but if the kids don't like it they won't get anything out of it!

First use of the gymnasium!!!

Tonight was the first night we were able to use the gymnasium.  The kindergartners and first graders were the first group up.  We played Valentine tag and leap frog tag and one other.  It was interesting when I had to try to go through a little one's legs to try and free them.  I didn't fit so well and my knees hurt.  The kids were really excited when we started.  By the last tag game we played with them they were tired and not so into the game.  Luckily it was time for the groups to change then.  We had to keep the games hopping, and I think it helped that we were playing it with them.  They seemed to enjoy tagging the college kids.

After that we were broken up into groups.  Our lab assistant wasn't there so we did a project.  Mark and I organized the storage space.  We put pictures on the outside of the equipment boxes and containers.  I think it will make it a lot easier to find the equipment that we need to use.  I just hope the Physical Education teacher at St. Mary's is not mad at us for moving their things around.  That was a fun project.  I hope it helps.  The lab assistants gave some great advice tonight.  Write your blog while it is fresh in your memory.  I am a person that has to write everything down, so this will help me.
